Locks are an irreplaceable counterpart to a majority of doors — whether they are commercial, industrial, or even residential. There are a large variety of doors that serve specific purposes with their own distinct features that can be tailored for your needs as a homeowner or as a business owner. This variety also exists in the locks that are attached to your doors, each of which also have their niche purposes. This is the primary reason why there are combinations of doors and locks that work best in residential settings, and others shine more in industrial and commercial buildings.

If residential homes usually use knob locks, industrial doors and keys include cylindrical lever locks, keypad door locks, mortise locks, and the industrial electric strike doors. Industrial door locks can be changed in one to three common ways if it is really needed to do so. However, these changes depend on the type of door and if the DIY process is straightforward, if you think of doing so.

Changing industrial keys is usually a process that requires the help of a professional locksmith. Here at Sherlock Locksmith, we got you covered. Our team of highly skilled and capable locksmiths are able to change your industrial keys with efficiency and accuracy, and they’ll make the complicated process look a lot more simple so they could save you from the hassle of doing it yourself.

THE SHERLOCK PROCESS: CHANGING INDUSTRIAL KEYS

How does the process of changing an industrial key work? The way our team of locksmiths do it at Sherlock Locksmith is designed to provide the highest quality of service we can while being flexible enough to tailor to the needs of our clients. Generally the process in which your industrial locks are being changed are as follows:

The first thing our technicians do once they start is to open the packaging of the lock that is about to be used. The content of the box is brought out by our technicians and set carefully on the table. Since a majority of these locks come put-together, the technician will have to pull the lock apart in order for it to be installed and mounted to your door. The end of the lock which has the lock cylinder is taken note of, and the offcuts are kept together. The parts are laid out in a special Sherlock Locksmith way, as they are laid from left to right in order to keep a record of the order of the parts that were taken apart.

Keyed latches can be seen with the cylinder out of the latch. These screws are usually found on the non-keyed handle side of the latch, and need to be emphasized as it is very important in order to do the process in the most accurate way possible. If you do not want to make a mess of your new industrial keys, it is a must to remember them.

The existing latch will then be uninstalled, and the new latch bolt will be installed going forward. The new cylindrical housing for your industrial key will also be installed into the hole in the door, and the outside rose insert will be placed over the inside support plate, which will be put over the lever sleeve and screwed directly into place. This is done in order to make sure that complications are avoided as much as possible. Securing the inside rose insert into the inside support plate will be the next step with the use of two screws. After this is done, both the inside and outside levers are slid over the lever sleeve and put into place.

At first glance, the process of changing industrial keys seems a little intimidating, but with the help of a professional locksmith technician, the daunting process becomes as easy as reading the ABCs. In industrial settings, protecting your business’ ventures are your highest priority, and we are here to help you achieve that. Our team of locksmiths at Sherlock locksmith recommend that you have the proper commercial locks installed for your business, and they are properly maintained and replaced whenever the need arises.

When you put your trust in Sherlock Locksmith, though, we are more than willing to show a demo or explain the differences of different finishes and sizes of panic bars, so that our clients get the freedom to choose what panic bar suits their business the most.
