PINS REPLACED: THE PROCESS OF REKEYING

Every traditional lock consists of a cylinder where the key is entered for opening your door. The process of reconfiguring this lock cylinder and rekeying it requires the proper tools, equipment, and knowledge and should be done by a qualified, insured, and bonded locksmith in order to ensure that your lock works with one key only and it works properly.

Each cylinder has a specific combination in order to be unlocked, which can be opened by your key which follows that specific combination. From there, the locksmith will change the order of your lock’s pins in order for it to work with the new key you are going to be given. Depending on the cuts of the new key, the pins in the lock cylinder will be reconfigured to fit that exact cut.

Why should you rekey your locks, you ask? A few reasons why are:

  • You recently purchased a new home;
  • A tenant is moving out of your apartment building, or;
  • A replacement lock was installed and has to be rekeyed.

Here at Sherlock Locksmith, we recommend that you rekey your locks every few years, even if you haven’t experienced one of the aforementioned reasons above. For whatever reason you need a reliable and dependable lock rekeying service, do not hesitate to call us at 817-438-1962 and we can guarantee you the best rekey service possible.
