Every traditional lock consists of a cylinder where the key is entered for opening your door. The process of reconfiguring this lock cylinder and rekeying it requires the proper tools, equipment, and knowledge and should be done by a qualified, insured, and bonded locksmith in order to ensure that your lock works with one key only and it works properly.
Each cylinder has a specific combination in order to be unlocked, which can be opened by your key which follows that specific combination. From there, the locksmith will change the order of your lock’s pins in order for it to work with the new key you are going to be given. Depending on the cuts of the new key, the pins in the lock cylinder will be reconfigured to fit that exact cut.
